There seems to be no end to the list of gadgets that are leaving tech-savvy freaks go crazy. When we think nothing more can be amazing, some or the other thing is introduced and we are left wide-mouth opened.
The latest gadget to join the club is the ASUS Zenfone 3s Max and TheTechbeard team recently got well acquainted with the unit.
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max goes with the tagline -Liv3unplugged in Style! I’ve used the Zenfone 3s Max from the last two months and quite acquainted with the device. From last two months, ASUS Zenfone 3s Max was my primary device and I did almost all the tasks that includes internet browsing on 4G internet, playing games, listening music, multitasking and much more.
That is the reason, today, I’m all set to share the ASUS Zenfone 3s Max detailed review, user-experience and much more with you all. I’m sure the detailed review of ASUS Zenfone 3s Max will help you all to make your buying decision.
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Design and Built
2.5D curved glass, full-metal, Aluminium all-Alloy body and 75% screen to body ratio, ASUS Zenfone 3s Max is quite cool look-wise. We got a gold color review unit which is a stunner and look classy.
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max is a bit heavy because of the reason that it is equipped with 5000 mAh large battery. I’m sure there are many who like to have a big battery phone and can compromise with the weight of the device.
There is an earpiece, selfie camera and ambient light sensor right above the display, unlike previous unit, this one has a fingerprint sensor below the display and not at the back.
There are no capacitive navigation buttons on the body as they are on the screen display which I feel doesn’t like personally. I feel that having capacitive buttons on the body is more user-friendly and it doesn’t take the space on the display which means more place for content. ASUS could have easily done it because the real estate on the sides of fingerprint sensor are wasted.
The edges of the phone are rounded and is easier to hold the phone in one hand. I found it easy and loved the way I could comfortably hold the unit without having to bother about slipping down.
On the right side, you will find the power button and volume rocker while on the top is 3.5 mm headphone jack and micro-USB port at the bottom.
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Display
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max has a 5.2 inch display with 720×1280 resolution that makes all the colors brilliant, while watching movies and videos. However, while playing some games that are graphic heavy, you might feel some fading of the colors in the corners of the screen. I’ve checked many forums about this problem but couldn’t find any so came to the conclusion that this problem is might of the review unit I got.
The viewing angles are good that ensures you can check the screen from almost any angle. ASUS Zenfone 3s Max has 400 nits brightness and I never faced a problem viewing the screen under the direct sunlight. ASUS also introduced Bluelight Filter that is surely handy in the nights for your eye care.
ASUS Zenfone 3S Max Software
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max comes with Android Nougat 7.0 straight out of the box and brand new ZenUI 3.0 is layered on the top of it.
I, personally, like the ASUS theme app that provides hundreds of themes based on your interests. This further helps you to change the look and feel of the device in seconds. Well, there are some themes that are available for a price, but most of them are free.
There are a few apps that are pre-installed in ASUS Zenfone 3S Max such as Puffin, Share Link, ZenCircle, ZenTalk, AudiWizard, etc. Personally, I don’t find these apps useful and never used it from the first day I’m using this device.
One feature that ASUS has included in the smartphone is “Game Genie” which is surely a good move. Using this feature, you can speed boost the device by clearing RAM, so that your gaming experience will be flawless. Game Genie also lets you record videos while playing the game and broadcast it live to YouTube or Twitch. Pretty nice, isn’t?
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Performance
The device is powered by MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor, which I feel on the lower side when there is Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 available in the market. The reason why I’m saying this is Qualcomm processor allowed full HD panel where MediaTek SoC has a limitation of supporting maximum screen resolution of 720p.
Other than this, I feel that ASUS has done a good job in optimizing the software according to the processor. MediaTek MT6750 with 3GB of RAM ensures that the functioning of the device is butter smooth. Even while doing multi-tasking, I didn’t find any legging issues and switching between the apps were easy.
When I was testing gaming ability of the device by playing games such as Asphalt8, Nova, Assassin’s Creed Pirate, the phone got heated up a little. I think that is not a big problem as I was playing games for more than 4:30 hours.
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max comes with a 32GB internal storage and you can expand via a microSD card upto 2TB which is surely a welcome move from ASUS. One thing that I don’t like most of the phones come these days with hybrid dual SIM tray. You can either put a MicroSD card and one SIM or two SIMs, but will not be able to use your MicroSD card. Huh!
When it comes to 32GB internal storage, you will get around 23GB to use and remaining is taken by system OS and other bloatware apps that ASUS comes with.
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max’s fingerprint sensor is fast and can be unlocked in 0.5 seconds. Also, fingerprint sensor supports recognition of up to 5 fingers. It features multi-window mode, ZenMotion Touch Gesture, and GameGenie that promise to add to the user-experience.
Asus Zenfone 3S Max Camera Performance
There is a 13-megapixel rear camera with f 2.0 aperture and LED flash. Easily make video recording up to 1080p (30fps), click some cool photos and capture the moments. The images I took were pretty up to the mark; not super amazing but nice though. You can see the ASUS Zenfone 3s Max camera samples below:
There is 8-megapixel front camera with 85˚ wide-viewing angle, which does a good job outdoors, but quality drops indoors. It has few rear modes that you can use such as backlight (HDR) mode which acts as a LED, real-time beautification mode, night mode, etc.
There is ZenFone 3s Max’s Super Resolution Mode that promises to let users shoot deluxe high-resolution 52 megapixel photo.
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Battery and Connectivity
Battery is the USP of the unit. I am using the device day and night and it’s not getting exhausted. The device has 5,000mAh battery to offer backup of two days or more on a single charge. I have played games and watching videos/movies along with my day-to-day task and the battery has not disappointed me. The phone also supports reverse charging, meaning you can use it as a power bank to charge other smartphones.
Also, there is reverse charging to let you use it as a power bank to charge other smartphones. I recently went to the late night party with my friend and guess what at one point, her phone was running out of battery making her worried, but knowing that ASUS Zenfone 3s Max can charge her phone; she heaved a sigh of relief.
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Price and Availability
ASUS Zenfone 3s Max (ZC521TL) wears a price tag of Rs.14,999 and is available in Sand Gold and Black color. I couldn’t understand why there is no White color in this phone!
Asus Zenfone 3s Max Whether to Buy it or Not?
See, as far as the features are concerned the ASUS Zenfone 3s Max is endowed with high-capacity battery that gives freedom to use it for extended lengths, its decent hardware specifications, sharp display and expandable storage upto 2 TB contribute a great deal in making it worth buying unit.
However, if the price tag given closer to 10k, ASUS Zenfone 3s Max would have been a killer phone. However, if you are a guy/girl who is always on the move and need a decent looking smartphone with a good camera in bright conditions, you can pick ASUS Zenfone 3s Max.
